Sue King - Family Therapist
About me

I have a background in managing staff and family counselling within the Child Health Department of a large teaching hospital in Cardiff. I have also consulted for a team of psychotherapists at the Hafod Newydd mental health facility in Bridgend, South Wales, as well as having been part of a team providing counselling services to GP surgeries in Cardiff and the Vale area of Glamorgan.

My approach in counselling and psychotherapy is 'Person Centred'. This means I consider the relational aspects of therapy of the utmost importance, particularly with regard to creating mutual respect, trust and congruence between the client and myself.

During counselling and psychotherapy, I explore the impact and effects of events on clients, and work to help  them understand how and why these impact on their feelings and perception of themselves. This provides the basis to for me to work with clients to create new meanings to surround and reconcile themselves with such events, as well as progressively helping them towards a state of mind in which they can begin to facilitate their own healing process.

My formal training and qualifications are as follows:

  • Diploma in Nursing (Child) 1997

  • Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling 2002

  • Post Graduate Diploma in Systemic Psychotherapy 2007

  • Masters in Systemic Psychotherapy (MSc) 2010

  • Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy 2012

I am able to provide professional referees on request.
